Objective A: Students will apply theoretical approaches in sociology to interpret and explain the movie. Report Format: Use Microsoft Word (.doc). Use 1-inch margins, double-spacing between the lines, 12-point font. Type your name, title of DVD, date & course section number on the top left side of the Frst page. Answer questions in the “Report Content” in 3-4 typed pages. The work-cited page does not count as one of these pages. Because this is a scientiFc report and NOT an essay, you can simply respond to each question as it appears in the instructions, and write in full sentences to be sure that your meaning is clear. Avoid using any creative or ±owery descriptions, or personal biases or opinions (unless they are requested). Grading Hints: Please read Chapters 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, and examine the diagrams in Appendix A of your book before you complete this assignment. You may also consult other chapters in the textbook to help with this report. I will not grade the assignment unless it has the work-cited page about the movie attached. This assignment is worth 100 points. I will score your report using the following criteria… complete responses to questions with college level English skills support for ideas with valid social facts demonstration of critical thinking skills use of concepts from the textbook and underline them in your typing. It is not enough to simply insert the concepts into a sentence. You must use them in a way that Fts their meaning within the sentence. Observation Notes: You will choose a DVD from the list in the syllabus to observe, analyze and make deductions about in this critical thinking report. Watch the DVD and take notes in your own hand-writing or on computer. It is not important how you take them. I expect them to be a little messy. When I grade, I will be assessing your ability to record your observations of the items in the instructions (see below). Be sure to record details about all of the following items in your notes: 1. Describe the places, time periods, groups and organizations that the movie shows. 2. Choose 2 individual people in the movie whom you think are important in the society in the movie. Take notes about their appearance, language, actions, and behaviors.

3. Choose a scene or an ongoing relationship between 2 or more people that you think is important for understanding the society in the movie. What groups or institutions are important to the people in this scene? Take notes on the words and body language that they use when they interact with each other.
