I need help with the discussion part of research paper:
Does gender have any effect on word recall memory? In order to find out what gender might be better at recalling words from memory we asked 40 people to sit down and take a word recall test. They were given a piece of paper and two minutes to recall what words they could remember from a list that was read off by each researcher. None of the participants were able to retake or given the word list beforehand so the validity was intact and additionally they were all documented by just a male or female label. Also, with them not having the knowledge that this was male against female it was a more laid-back attempt than what was gotten if told it was a gender memory experiment. What was found by the results was interesting to say the least because what is being shown is that according to gender testing women are much more apt to recall words read off to them from a list. Men however seem to recall words that directly were presented (IE truck, apple, boy, girl) However with the research there are outliers that show some me outranked women as well. Research is non-definitive without further research but the methods we as researchers did came up with these results as below.
Participants for our study include a miscellaneous grouping of 5 male and female volunteers from each group member which in total amounted to 40 participants. Volunteers all varied in age and location and all stayed anonymous for our research purposes. Researchers did not exclude any participants based on answers or based on any other information that was known about the volunteer. Also, researchers did not exclude due to physical or mental ailments and each was given an equal opportunity to participant in the research.
Research information and documentation was taken from each researcher and was documented by filling out on a chart whether the person was male or female and what their results were regarding the amount of words recalled from the form that was read to the participant. Each volunteer was asked if they wanted to participate before the experiment and was only informed it would be used for the purpose of a research paper.
We gathered from friends, family members and coworkers and informed them we would be completing an assignment for our research methods course and would need assistance in order to gather results for our paper. We then informed them that this would require them to recall a list of words and that they would receive two minutes to recall the words and write them down best as they could remember.
Our research team collected data from five males and five females each. Since we have four people in our group, our results are from a total of 20 males and 20 females. Our males had a result mean of 10, a mode of 10, a range from 6-13, and a median of 10. Our females had a result mean of 12.1, a mode of 9, a range from 7-17, and a median of 12. For my test I utilized Microsoft Excel to calculate the Independent T-test formula. The result was that there was a 0.015 difference between male and female making the findings insignificant. I also included a scatter graph to show where the numbers fell out for a better visual.
