BUSINESS 138-MARKETING RESEARCH
Sample Problem #2
ANOVA
You are the new Regional Marketing Director, California for Indian Motorcycles. Your
boss has determined that, as Indian Motorcycles-like their primary competitor, Harley-
Davidson-are somewhat of a luxury purchase, getting people to test-ride one is a key
indicator of their interest in purchasing one. As a result, you have come up with three
consumer promotion ideas to entice potential customers to take a test-ride. In five stores,
chosen as a probability sample from across the state, you will give test-riders a coupon
good for $50 in Indian Motorcycles merchandise. These stores reported average weekly
test-rides of 28, 31, 34, 37, and 40. A probability sample of four other stores donated
$50 to the test-rider's favorite charity in their name. These stores reported average
weekly test-rides of 22, 24, 26, and 28. A final probability sample of three stores paid
test-riders $50 in cash. These stores reported 31, 34, and 37 test-rides.
Using an alpha of .05 and the 5-step hypothesis-testing method, analyze the data (make
sure you include the ANOVA table) and report your findings.
