Module Nine: Results and Discussion Section Assignment

Use the information below to construct results and discussion sections for the data analysis presented. Be sure to use APA format and report all statistical results as they would appear in a published journal article. The final paper should be 1–2 pages and should include the results write-up and discussion.

Overview

This project examined the impact of ethnicity on the evaluations of injuries suffered by a victim in a court case.

Methods

Design: A 2 (Ethnicity: Asian American/African American) X 2 (Injury suffered: Intellectual/Athletic) completely crossed, between-subjects design was used to investigate the basic effect of interest.

Dependent Measures: Participants completed a wide variety of measures, including manipulation checks, the primary dependent measures (punishment and compensation judgments), and other secondary measures.

The results provided focus on two measures:

• Civamt: How much money respondents would award the victim if the defendant was found responsible, using a 7-point scale labeled from \$10,000 to \$70,000 in \$10,000 increments.
• Pristim: How many years the defendant should spend in prison, on a scale labeled from 1 to 13 years, increasing in 2-year increments.

Minitab Output: Analysis of impact of race and injury on the civil judgment:

Notes:
condrace = race of victim – African American or Asian
condinj = type of injury – Athletic or Intellectual
condrace * condinj = term for interaction between race of victim and type of injury

General Linear Model: civamt versus condrace, condinj

Factor Type Levels Values
condrace fixed 2 1, 2
condinj fixed 2 1, 2

Analysis of Variance for civamt, using Adjusted SS for Tests

condrace 1 1.201 2.228 2.228 0.73 0.394
condinj 1 1.072 0.342 0.342 0.11 0.738

Total 84 273.012
