You can work in groups of three and submit one homework. 2. Type your answers in this document. 3. Turn in hard copy in the class. No email submissions. No late homework. 4. Be sure to identify the axes with titles to describe the contents of charts, tables, graphs and histograms. Exercises: 1. Ch. 2, ex. #29. 2. Use the Webfile Mutual Funds. Described better in Ch 2 exercise #32. This is a dataset for a sample of 45 mutual funds. There are three types of mutual funds. Fund Type: DE=domestic equity, IE=international equity, FI=fixed income Net Asset Value ($) = Equity per share Expense Ratio (%) = percentage of assets deducted to fund expenses a. Prepare a Pie Chart of the Fund Type. b. Prepare a cross tabulation of Fund Type (rows) and Expense Ratio (columns). Use intervals of half a percentage point. (Group Settings: min= 0.25, max=1.49, by=0.50). c. Prepare a Stacked Bar Chart of Fund Type (horizontal axis category) and Expense Ratio (stacked categories). d. Which Fund Type spends the most? e. An interesting question is whether funds that spend more perform better (i.e. produce higher returns). Do a Scatter Plot of Expense Ratio (vertical axis) and 5- Year Average Return (horizontal axis). f. Comment on the relationship. Specifically, do better performing funds spend more? g. What is the correlation coefficient between the Expense Ratio and Average Returns? h. Draw a histogram for Net Asset Value (Group Settings: min= 0, max=80, by=10). i. Comment on the shape of the histogram. j. Report the numerical descriptive statistics for the mean, median, mode, standard deviation and coefficient of variation for Net Asset Value. k.
