      I chose the topic of nurse burnout for my milestone paper. It is a personal topic that.

EXPLANATION OF BURNOUT

           

     According to World Health Organization burnout is identified by three traits which

 

are extreme tiredness to the point of being exhausted, detachment from your work, and

 

decreased competency. Multiple articles written on the subject use the same criteria to

 

explain the syndrome that affects many nurses during their career.

    

    The reasons for the syndromes include high ratio of nurses to patients which leads to

 

the nurse feeling like there is not enough time available to perform all her duties with  

 

each patient. The nurse feels as though she must short cut something in this process to

 

be able to see all the patients in a given day, Other factors that make the staff feel

 

inadequate is the amount of charting that is required for each patient. Thereby forcing the

 

nurse to be looking at the computer screen more than looking and assessing the patients.
