Image transcription text Answer the following questions: (peer review questions for the annotated bibliography). 1. How does the author plan to use each source for their research essay? The answer to this question should be obvious. 2. How does the author describe the relationship among their sources? What kind of language
does the author use to directly state how certain sources will work with, challenge, explain, or support each other source? 3. If all the author has for an annotation is a summary of their source, or if you are unable to
answer the previous questions, discuss possible connections that you see between and among the sources listed. Image transcription text Rough Draft Annotated Bibliography
Anyon, Jean. "From Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work." Rereading America:
Cultural Contextsfor Critical Thinking and Writing. edited by Gary Colombo, Robert Cullen, and Bonnie Lisle. Bedford/St. Martin's, 2016. pp.136-153. Jean Anyon claims schools in wealthy communities have better education than in poor
communities. Anyon observes 5 elementary schools in four vastly different socio—economic
communities. She observes students in the working-class, middle-class, affluent professional
school, and the executive elite school. The point of this essay is to make people aware of the
unequal education students receives because of their income. Anyon's essay was published in 1980 and her work is researched based. The research is
completely objective and her task includes observing the students and asking them a few
questions. Anyon observes the poorer schools treat students in bootcamp atmosphere and the
wealthier schools gives students more freedom and emphasizes in the liberal arts. She then
explains each schools prepare the student's future according to their community. The essay is
highly illustrative and is categorized into different sections. Anyon's article will serve as a base for my research essay. Her essay meets all the criteria
that I will argue for in my essay. In addition, her quotes will be used throughout the research
essay. I will be breaking my supporting paragraphs into four parts: working class, middle—class, affluent professional school. and executive elite school. Aronson, Pamela. "Breaking Barriers or Locked Out? Class-Based Perceptions and Experiences of Postsecondary Education." New Directions for Child & Adolescent Development, vol. 2008, no. 119, Spring2008, pp. 41-54. EBSCOhost, doi:10.1002/cd.208. Image transcription text Aronson claims first generation and low income students are disadvantaged to
postsecondary education. She supports her claim by stating students are filtered out from
education early as elementary school. Aronson's article covers inequalities during childhood,
transitions to adulthood, class differences and more from her research. She provides lengthy
claims of student's experience in college to argue her objective. Her conclusion is stating college
is creating inequality class barriers instead of reducing them. The research is objective but experiences from post secondary education is subjective.
The source seems reliable due to the fact it provides plenty of references from other sources.
Aronson's work is credible since she's an assistant sociology professor at the University of
Michigan-Dearborn and her research is from 2008, which is pretty recent. Compared to Jean Anyon's article, this article seems more subjective than objective. The
section explaining students starting out unequal to education might be used for my research. I
might use some parts of that section to argue why some students are disadvantaged. Aronson
stance on post secondary education doesn't fit to my argument. Aronson article is more heavily
quoted from other resources, I don't see much of her argument. I probably might use this article if I can't find any other arguments to support my thesis. Carvacho, Hector, et al. "On the Relation between Social Class and Prejudice: The Roles of
Education, Income, and Ideological Attitudes." European Journal of Social Psychology,
vol. 43, no. 4, June 2013, pp. 272-285. EBSCOhost, doi:10.1002/ejsp.l96l. This case study from multiple sociologists are claiming there is a link between social class and prejudice. Income and education is to be under the impression of prejudice. They will Image transcription text also try to prove the connection between social class and prejudice are caused by ideological
attitudes. Hector Carvacho and others test their hypotheses by using 4 large studies: Study 1 used
Computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI), study 2 used that same model, but from France,
Germany, UK, and Netherlands, study 3 hypotheses were tested in a German panel survey, and
study 4 analyses concerning attitudes toward immigrants was replicated with a sample of Chilean
adults. The research seems to be objective since their research studies are so large and from
different countries. In addition, the 2013 article reveals statistical tables to prove their research. Out of all of the sources I collected, this article is the only one claiming social class can
be linked to prejudice and ideological attitudes. The topic of this source is too broad. It covers
many elements and the article is too scholarly. The statistical table provided in this article is too difficult to understand. Henward, Allison S. and Donna J. Grace. "Kindergartners' Development of Privileged
Subjectivities within an Elite School." Children & Society, vol. 30, no. 6, Nov. 2016, pp. 488—
498. EBSCOhost, doi: 10.1 1 l l/chso.12157. Allison Henward and Donna J. Grace investigates how kindergarten children think about
the impression oftheir school in three socially stratified school settings: public, charter and
private. The students also discuss their socioeconomic community by comparing themselves to Other stratified schools. Image transcription text Henward and Grace selected three classrooms according to grade levels, teacher's
participation, and contrast of school settings. The data collected is from observations and
interviews. The author's article is in the middle between objective and subjective. The subjective
is the Children's impression and the Objective is the curriculum students are provided in each stratified schools. Henward and Grace are both professors at the University of Hawaii, which makes them credible.
